The Crinan Hotel
History and Heritage
At the north end of the Crinan Canal, connecting Loch Fyne to the Atlantic Ocean, is the tiny picturesque fishing village of Crinan with its population of just under 80 inhabitants.
For over 200 years the Crinan Hotel has been the centre of this little community. Adjacent to the Crinan Canal, this was a hub of activity for fishermen returning home with their catch. (Our prawns and lobsters get landed just a few yards from the hotel and are the freshest you're every likely to eat.) In it's early days the canal was a busy traffic route for vessels looking to avoid the long voyage round the Argyll coast.
Much of Scotland's history and heritage can be traced back to Argyll and the area surrounding Crinan. Castles, monasteries, grand mansions, battle sites and prehistoric ruins are all here.
Whether you are looking for a short break, an active family holiday or a romantic weekend, this part of Argyll has much to offer and plenty to discover. And, with a wealth of outdoor pursuits and nature-based activities including sailing, cycling and walking, we are certain it will become a firm favourite.
