CRINAN HOTEL HOSTS rgi SUMMER EXHIBITION

Gordon Mitchell, former convenor of the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts (RGI), stands alongside his painting at the organisation's fundraising exhibition at the Art Gallery in Crinan Hotel, Argyll.

This is the fifth year the event has been staged at the Crinan Art Gallery. The exhibition shows RGI member artists exhibiting along side a parallel show of well known local and invited artists. James Spence, Ian Mackenzie Smith, Simon Laurie and Glen Scouller are just some of the RGI artists that have pieces on display.

Hugely successful in terms of RGI outreach to the West of Scotland, the Crinan events have introduced many new artists to the institute.

Founded in 1861 the RGI is a charitable organisation promoting and encouraging Scotland's contemporary art and artists. Promoting the creativity of young artists especially, the organisation continues to encourage young people to enjoy art through its education programme. The RGI supports young artists through a scholarship programme and awards 17 cash prizes to artists at its prestigious annual exhibition.

The exhibition will remain at Crinan Art Gallery until July 2nd 2010.

NEW ART EXHIBITS AT CRINAN

A new art exhibition was launched at Crinan Hotel in May. The exhibition featured works from the annual exhibition of Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour which took place in Edinburgh earlier this year. Will McLean, Marian Leven, Ian Mackenzie Smith, Ann Wegmuller and Alison Dunlop all had pieces featured in the exhibition.

John Inglis, President of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour personally selected the 30 artists featured in the Crinan Exhibition.

John Ingis said: "This is an exciting exhibition, There are some rare painting on show here. One wall features landscape pieces from the very literal to a varied interpretation of landscape."

The exhibition, one of several successful exhibitions being held at Crinan this year, ran for four weeks until June 4th.
